Qigong & Stress Reduction

Resourcing ourselves with Qigong

Relaxation techniques teach us how to relax our bodies and our minds. Some relaxation techniques even train our body and mind to be less reactive to stress.

Qigong is a wonderful resource that incorporates all the important elements of stress reduction.

  1. Meditation
      • Research shows that meditation helps change the neural pathways in your brain, making it less reactive to stress.
      • Qigong is a form of moving and still meditation that is easy to learn and practice.
  2. Learn how to breathe to relax
      • Learning to breath more deeply and slowly activates the parasympathetic nervous system, the part of our body that helps us rest and relax: our heart rate slows down, blood pressure decreases, digestion improves, stress hormones are reduced, and our mood improves.
      • Qigong teaches us specific techniques that naturally relax the body, deepen the breath, and activate the parasympathetic nervous system.
  3. Learning to be Present
      • Stress causes us to worry about the future, something we can’t control.
      • Qigong practice keeps us focused on our body and our breath, strengthening our ability to stay in present moment experience. Learning to stay in present moment experience allows us to shift our attention away from worry to resources that are available in the present moment.
